Queensland Police are investigating an alleged assault on Magnetic Island, with witnesses claiming Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto was among those involved in the incident.

Officers have confirmed that an altercation between a 42-year-old man and a 28-year-old man occurred at a Nelly Bay Road business on Sunday. No charges have been laid, and the investigation remains ongoing, according to Star 106.3

Multiple witnesses have alleged the mayor was present and involved in the incident. Mayor Dametto has denied the allegations.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact police.

Mayor Dametto has served as Townsville’s mayor since November 2025, following a by-election in which he received more than 61 per cent of the primary vote.
