Confirmed: Hawkesbury GM resignation

Hawkesbury City Council has confirmed the resignation of General Manager Elizabeth Richardson.

At its Ordinary Meeting on 14 April, the Council officially accepted Ms Richardson’s resignation after five years in the role.

During her tenure, Ms. Richardson is credited with transforming the council’s performance, infrastructure delivery, and workplace culture. Notably, she oversaw an increase in the annual capital works program from approximately $20 million to $100 million and led the community through major disaster recovery efforts following the 2022 and 2024 flood events. Her leadership also saw significant financial reforms, including the transfer of wastewater services to Sydney Water and the extension of the local waste management facility’s lifespan.

In the wake of her departure, Mayor Les Sheather praised Ms. Richardson for her “exceptional leadership” and “unwavering commitment,” noting that she leaves behind a more resilient organisation.

To ensure continuity, Council has appointed Will Barton, the current Director of Infrastructure, as the Acting General Manager effective Friday, 17 April 2026. The Mayor has reassured residents that it remains “business as usual” for the city while the recruitment process for a permanent successor begins.
