New Name, New Look: District Council of Grant Proposes Rebrand

The District Council of Grant is looking to trade in its 1996 origins for a fresh identity, proposing a transition to the Southern Limestone Coast Council.

The move, announced this week, marks the first major overhaul of the Council’s branding since it was formed via amalgamation nearly thirty years ago. Mayor Kylie Boston says the change is about more than just a new coat of paint—it’s about grounding the Council’s identity in the region’s unique geography.

“In light of our upcoming thirty-year anniversary, it became clear that Council needs more than a fresh logo,” Mayor Boston said. “‘Southern Limestone Coast Council’ links us geographically to where we are and celebrates the abundance of natural resources that strengthens our community.”

The proposed logo is a departure from traditional civic crests. Developed alongside creative agency Fuller and refined by a local Citizen’s Jury, the design is a circular “stone” motif inspired by the region’s geology, from its famous sinkholes to the rugged coastline. Each segment of the circle is intended to represent the different gazetted townships and communities within the district, symbolising strength and unity.

Under the proposal, a unified branding system would also be rolled out for the Mount Gambier Regional Airport, the Saleyards, and the Port MacDonnell Community Complex, finally bringing these major sites under one visual “family.”

The Council isn’t making the change behind closed doors. Community consultation is now open and will run until 5:00 pm, Tuesday 2 June 2026.

Interestingly, the Council is also keeping the door open for local talent. While the “stone circle” is the leading concept, residents and local artists are invited to submit their own alternative logo designs for consideration.

Community drop-in sessions will be held across the district throughout May. If you’ve got thoughts on the name or a better idea for a logo, now is the time to speak up.
