Marsh Wins Nepean, Triggering Council By-Election

Anthony Marsh, the Mayor of Mornington Peninsula Shire, has claimed victory in the Nepean state by-election, comfortably retaining the seat for the Liberal Party.

According to the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC), Marsh secured a commanding lead with approximately 63.5% of the two-candidate preferred vote against independent candidate Tracee Hutchison. Despite a strong showing from Pauline Hanson’s One Nation candidate Darren Hercus, who captured nearly 25% of the primary vote, Marsh’s primary lead of 38.5% proved insurmountable.

Following the formal declaration of the poll, Marsh will be required to resign his position as a councillor for the Mornington Peninsula Shire. This resignation will trigger a council by-election to fill his vacancy in the Briars Ward.

A timeline is expected to be determined for the upcoming local by-election once Cr Marsh’s official resignation is tendered. He has been on a leave of absence while contesting the Nepean campaign, with Deputy Mayor Cr Paul Pingiaro acting in the mayoral position during this time.
