Central Highlands Regional Council appoints Jason Hoolihan as permanent CEO

Date: 18th August 2026

Central Highlands Regional Council has appointed Jason Hoolihan as its new permanent Chief Executive Officer, following an independent, nationwide recruitment process that drew more than 70 applications.

Mr Hoolihan was one of three shortlisted candidates interviewed by the Mayor and councillors after the first round of interviews. He has lived in the Central Highlands since 2003 and joined council in April 2015, since holding a series of senior positions including General Manager Infrastructure and Utilities and, most recently, Director Operations. He has also served as Acting CEO and Acting General Manager of the Communities Department.

Before joining council, Mr Hoolihan worked in civil engineering roles with a private engineering firm and the Department of Transport and Main Roads, with experience spanning road construction and maintenance, flood mitigation, project management, and water and wastewater infrastructure.

Mayor Cr Moriarty said the appointment reflected “his management experience, technical expertise and proven commitment to the Central Highlands,” adding that it offered continuity given his existing knowledge of council’s staff, operations and communities.

The Mayor also acknowledged Acting CEO Graeme Kanofski for his leadership of the organisation since May. Mr Kanofski will remain with council until Mr Hoolihan formally takes over in early September.
