Barunga West CEO Mark McDonald Resigns After 5 Months

Barunga West Council Chief Executive Officer Mark McDonald has tendered his resignation, effective Wednesday 12 August 2026, after just five months in the role.
Mr McDonald began as CEO on 10 March 2026, following a period of interim leadership by Manager Corporate Services Tamara Harrison. His appointment marked the council’s first permanent CEO since Maree Wauchope commenced in the role in 2020. He joined Barunga West from the District Council of Ceduna, where he had served as Manager of Assets and Infrastructure.
Mayor Cr Leonie Kerley acknowledged Mr McDonald’s contribution during his time with Council, thanking him for his service to the Barunga West community.
Council has appointed Acting Manager of Corporate Services Stewart McLaren as Acting Chief Executive Officer from Thursday 13 August 2026, until an Interim CEO is secured. Mr McLaren joined Barunga West Council in 2022 following sixteen years with the City of Adelaide Council.
To support the transition, Council has again engaged Lino Di Lernia to provide advisory and project support services. Mr Di Lernia has been closely involved in the Fisherman Bay Freeholding Project and brings senior executive experience across infrastructure, planning and corporate governance.
Council has indicated further updates will be provided as the transition progresses.
