Adelaide Hills Council appoints Jade Ballantine as CEO

Adelaide Hills Council has appointed Jade Ballantine as its new Chief Executive Officer, with Ms Ballantine to start on Monday 9 November.

Council unanimously endorsed the appointment at a special meeting on 19 October, following a competitive recruitment process that drew a strong field of applicants.

Mayor Cr Nathan Daniell said Ms Ballantine brings regional experience, a strong understanding of the organisation and a commitment to serving the community. He said her leadership would be key to building on the organisation’s strengths and its collaborative culture.

Ms Ballantine is currently the council’s Director Environment and Infrastructure. Her earlier roles include Director City Growth at Whyalla Council and Director Infrastructure, Planning and Environment at the City of Port Lincoln. Before that, she worked with Regional Development Australia on economic development initiatives for the Eyre Peninsula, and managed the Watershed Protection Office of the Environment Protection Authority, based in Stirling in the Adelaide Hills.

Ms Ballantine said as a local resident she was proud to lead the council. She pointed to supporting primary producers, safeguarding critical watersheds and caring for an ageing population as areas of responsibility, and said she was committed to “practical, positive outcomes for every generation in the Hills”.

Roberto Bria served as Acting Chief Executive Officer during the recruitment process. Mayor Cr Daniell thanked Mr Bria for providing steady leadership during the transition, and said his contribution had been particularly valuable in guiding preparation of the council’s next Long-Term Financial Plan.

The council said it would continue to focus on responsible financial management, quality services and infrastructure, and working collaboratively with the community.

The vacancy in the CEO position arose after the Council terminated its employment contract with George Georgopoulos in July.
