Still deadlocked in Merri-bek

Merri-bek City Council has tonight held a further meeting to elect a Deputy Mayor, after two failed attempts 24 hours previously.

Nominations for the role were once again submitted for Cr Liz Irvin and Cr Katerine Theodosis. Those same councillors contested the vote the previous evening, each attracting five votes from the ten councillors present.

Once again, the vote was five votes each, meaning no absolute majority could be achieved.

A ten minute adjournment was taken before a further attempt at the vote was made. And the outcome…. was the same. Another five/five vote, meaning the deadlock continues.

Another meeting will be held at 6pm tomorrow at which a fifth attempt to elect a new Deputy Mayor will take place.
